Mr Spyros Panagiotopoulos

Mr Spyros Panagiotopoulos is a Consultant Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon based at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He also sees patients privately, at the Metabolic & Bariatric Centre in London Bridge Hospital and Chelsfield Park Hospital.

Mr Panagiotopoulos graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School, Greece in 1998. Following this, he completed an integrated residency program (6 years) in General Surgery with specialist training in laparoscopic and upper gastrointestinal surgery at University Hospital of Patras (UHP) in Patra, Greece and the Research Institute Against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD) in Strasbourg, France.

He obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training in 2008 and completed further higher specialist training in bariatric and metabolic surgery at the Bariatric and Metabolic Unit at UHP. To develop his expertise further, Mr Panagiotopoulos completed a Fellowship in Emergency General Surgery and Trauma at King's College Hospital in 2012 and was appointed there as a Consultant General Surgeon.

He was awarded a PhD for his work surrounding Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery by the University of Patras, Greece In 2013. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2016 and in 2018, he was accredited as a Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon at King's College Hospital, London.

Mr Panagiotopoulos's clinical practice is heavily focused on performing advanced laparoscopic surgery in both elective and emergency procedures. In addition to metabolic and bariatric surgery, he has special interests in benign biliary disease surgery, hernia surgery and acute surgical conditions.

He is also a clinical supervisor in International Fellowship for Metabolic Sugery at King's Metabolic & Diabetes Centre (which is an approved programme by Royal College of Surgeons).
