Dr Edward Seward is a gastroenterologist who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of precancer and early cancer of the bowel. He has particular expertise in colonoscopy and performs over a thousand operations every year.
His areas of expertise are as follows:
He is the Director of Endoscopy at University College London Hospital, the UK's leading endoscopy hospital, and he delivers endoscopy lectures both nationally and internationally. He also teaches colonoscopy techniques and polyp detection, characterisation, and removal. His outpatient clinics specialise in the treatment of IBD, colon polyps, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Dr Seward is an associate professor at UCL and has published substantially on the application of artificial intelligence in the colon as well as non-invasive detection of bowel cancer. He is part of a research group that is investigating the use of colon capsules (a tiny camera pill that can identify bowel conditions non-invasively), and he has appeared on national television to speak on the subject.
Dr Seward is well-liked by his patients due to his approachable nature, thorough explanations, and technical expertise.

I attended the Wellington Hospital for Dr Seward to perform a colonoscopy. The weekend before the procedure I had some abdominal pain and was concerned whether the colonoscopy should be postponed. I left a message at The Wellington and Dr Seward telephoned me twice over the weekend, to monitor my symptoms. On the day he met me half an hour before the procedure in a very welcoming, warm and reassuring manner explained the procedure. During the colonoscopy Dr Seward was very informative, in the same gentle, explanatory manner, and it went very well. Fantastic, both clinically and personally.
