Miss Serena Ceraldi

Miss Serena Ceraldi is a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Croydon University Hospital, part of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. Since earning her medical degree from the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2003, she has developed extensive expertise in advanced laparoscopic procedures, with particular proficiency in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Her approach prioritises minimally invasive techniques, delivering faster recovery times and improved outcomes for her patients.

Miss Ceraldi’s passion for global health is evident in her international work. She spent a year in Malawi with VSO, where she served as a Consultant Surgeon at the capital’s government hospital and taught at the College of Health Sciences. She has also volunteered in Mexico, India, and Kenya, combining surgical care with education to support lasting improvements in healthcare delivery.

A strong advocate for surgical training, Miss Ceraldi founded the Croydon Academy of Surgical Training (CAST), fostering collaboration between UK-based trainees and colleagues in Malawi. In addition to her clinical and educational work she leads sustainability efforts within surgery at Croydon University Hospital, working to reduce the environmental footprint of surgical care. Her leadership in clinical practice, global health, and sustainable surgery places her at the forefront of modern, responsible surgical care.
