Professor Sooriakumaran (Prof PS) MA(Oxon) BMedSci(Hons) BMBS(Hons) PhD PGCertMedLaw ADCertClinInv(Cornell) FRCS (Urol) FEBU USMLE is Clinical Lead for Robotic Soft-Tissue Surgery at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the organisation responsible for producing guidelines for all health care treatments in the country. Prof PS' leadership in NICE gives him arguably the most important voice among all UK robotic surgeons in how robotic surgical services will be shaped across the country, and this appointment provides an independent testament to his robotic surgical expertise.

Prof PS was the first UK urologist to become Full Professor of Urology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and the first Lead for Urology at Cleveland Clinic London where he performed the hospital's first urology and robotic surgical procedures as well as set up the Urology Multi-Disciplinary Team and the Robotic Users Group meetings.

In April 2025, Prof PS moved his private practice to New Victoria Hospital in South West London and to LSDC Healthcare in the City of London, where he also is the Chief Academic Officer. In May 2025, he added in private practice sites at Cromwell Hospital in West London, one of only two private hospitals in the UK with the latest single-port surgical robot, as well as Harley Street Specialist Hospital in Central London, where Prof PS is the lead for urology and men's health.

Prof PS is also the only urologist worldwide to be Visiting Professor of Urology at both the University of Oxford and the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences where he also holds a Visiting Professorship in Robotic Surgery.

Prof PS is an internationally reputed Consultant Urological & Robotic Surgeon specialising in Prostate Cancer, and is globally accepted to be one of the UK's foremost authorities on prostate cancer care. His clinical and research work has changed the practice of prostate cancer care, especially robotic surgery, and saw him listed as one of London's Most Influential People in Healthcare in 2018 and at the top of the List in 2019, making him London's Most Influential Doctor that year. Prof PS was also named as one of the UK's best prostate cancer surgeons/urologists in a poll of UK urologists who were asked who they would most like to have their nearest and dearest treated by. This poll was published in the Daily Mail.

He also holds several other positions of esteem and responsibility: exam writer for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Urology; Health Services Journal Cancer Judge; reviewer for several grant bodies including the Rosetrees Trust, the National Institute of Health Research, and The Urology Foundation; National Clinical Impact Award regional sub-committee, among others. Prof PS was awarded a Bronze Award for Clinical Excellence at a National Level in 2019, which was renewed as a National Clinical Impact Award in 2024.

Prof PS is the only urologist to win the Vice-Chancellor's Alumni Award for his services to prostate cancer care. He has also won dozens of other prizes and awards from learned international societies such as the American Urologic Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Association of Urology, British Association of Urological Surgeons, Royal Society of Medicine, and many more. Prof PS is highly educated in his field, being one of a few UK urologists to hold a PhD in Prostate Cancer, and also has degrees/qualifications in Human Anatomy & Cell Biology (First Class), Medicine (With Honours), Urology, Medical Law, and Clinical Investigation.

Prof PS has undergone extensive and unparallelel training having completed three world-class fellowships with the pioneers of robotic surgery at Ivy League's Cornell University in New York, the Nobel-awarding Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, and the world-leading University of Oxford. Prof PS performs precision surgery for his patients, with an individualized approach to all his surgeries. He is an expert in all technical maneuvers to preserve urinary and sexual function after robotic prostate cancer surgery, including Retzius sparing and Neurosafe prostatectomy. His considerable experience coupled with his exceptional international training at the world's best institutions, has enabled Prof PS to achieve world-class outcomes for his patients.

Prof PS has published research to improve the care for prostate cancer patients globally, and is a highly sought after speaker/trainer at international conferences in robotic surgery for prostate cancer. Prof PS has given over 300 presentations/state-of-the-art lectures/research talks at international forums and has published over 200 medical journal articles in the field, making him one of the UK's leading researchers in surgery for prostate cancer.

Prof PS' status as a world-leading prostate cancer academic surgeon is also evidenced by his Membership of the Faculty of Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford, and Membership of the University of Oxford's sovereign body, the Congregation. Prof PS was also conferred with the degree of Master of Arts from the University of Oxford as recognition of his academic standing and seniority. Prof PS is the only London urologist to hold these prestigious Oxford credentials.
