Mr Harish Bhandari is a Consultant Gynaecologist and an accredited sub-specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. His comprehensive expertise encompasses all aspects of fertility assessment and treatments, gynaecological conditions affecting fertility, gynaecology and reproductive surgery, and management of recurrent miscarriage. He is a confident gynaecology and reproductive surgeon, specialising in the surgical management of gynaecological conditions. These include laparoscopic, open and hysteroscopic procedures. He has considerable experience in the management of menstrual disorders. He has special clinical and research interests in recurrent miscarriage.
Mr Bhandari trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in South-East of England and East and West Midlands before undertaking his sub-specialist training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in Newcastle which he completed in 2016, and was appointed as a consultant at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust with dual accreditation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine and Surgery.
He became the Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 2010 and for his contributions to women’s health made through research, teaching, and clinical practice, he was awarded the Fellowship of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG) in 2022.
Mr Bhandari’s research project, titled ‘Obesity and Peri-implantation Endometrium’ provided evidence that endometrial stromal function is possibly modulated by metabolic influences, and that poor reproductive outcomes in obese women have a molecular basis in the endometrium. This research led to the award of Doctor of Medicine (MD) by the Warwick University in 2015. He has published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and lectures widely at local, national and international meetings and conferences, to contribute to the knowledge of gynaecology
and fertility-related conditions.
Mr Bhandari set up Recurrent Implantation Failure and Transgender Fertility Preservation services and introduced procedures such as HyCoSy and Hysteroscopic proximal tubal catheterisation at Leeds Fertility. He was the Clinical Governance Lead for Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine Unit (2018-21) at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. In recognition of his significant contributions to patient care, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust awarded him with a Level 3 Clinical Excellence Award in 2019.
Mr Bhandari has been on the British Fertility Society (BFS) Executive Committee for many years now. He was first elected as the Junior Clinicians’ representative in 2016. He represented the BFS as an Expert Working Group Member on Subchapters MA/MB/MC/NZ of the National Casemix Office (2017 - 2021) to oversee the funding for fertility assessment and treatment, and on the RCOG Sub-specialty Committee (2019 - 2021) responsible to oversee RCOG sub-speciality training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in the UK and overseas training centres, before being re-elected as the Clinician members’ representative on the BFS Executive Committee (Jan 2021 – present). He was the Chair of the BFS Policy and Practice sub-committee (Apr 2021 – Aug 2024) which saw publication of many evidence-based national guidelines of which he is honoured to have co-authored two. He was elected as the Honorary Treasurer and an Executive Officer of the BFS in April 2024, and will be taking over the role in July 2025.
He has been representing the RCOG on the Advisory Appointment Committee (AAC) Panels responsible for appointing substantive consultants in NHS Hospitals since 2019.
As an educator, Mr Bhandari is dedicated to training the next generation of healthcare professionals. He regularly organises seminars, and training sessions for colleagues at various levels and medical students, sharing his knowledge and expertise to enhance their skills and understanding of reproductive medicine. He was a Honorary Senior Lecturer at University of Leeds (2017 - 2022) and was an Associate of the General
Medical Council (2020 - 2022) as a PLAB Examiner, a qualifying exam for international medical graduates who wish to practice medicine in the UK.
Mr Bhandari’s collaboration with Indian Fertility Society (IFS) as the Founding Joint Secretary of the IFS UK Forum (2024) is a testament to his commitment to advancing reproductive medicine worldwide. He is one of the Associate Editors of the International Federation of Fertility Society’s journal Global Reproductive Health (2018 - Present).
He is the Medical Director of JIVA Fertility through which he offers a wide range of investigations and fertility treatments. He has practising privileges at Nuffield Hospital, Leeds since February 2018 and he is the current gynaecology representative on the Medical Advisory Committee at Nuffield Hospital, Leeds (2023 to present).
Besides spending time with his family in his free time, he keeps himself fit with various indoor and outdoor pursuits. He trekked to Mount Kilimanjaro in 2023 and led a group of 23 individuals to Everest Base camp trek in Nepal in 2024. He enjoys watching cricket (having stopped playing due to a bad right shoulder dislocation) and cooking Indian food. He was recently elected as the Club Secretary for a local cricket club in Leeds. In quieter moments he enjoys listening to Indian music.
