Mr Benedict Lankester is an esteemed knee surgeon based in Somerset, serving patients through both the NHS and private practices in Yeovil Hospital (Kingston Wing) and Sulis Hospital Bath. He specialises in various aspects of orthopaedic knee surgery, including cartilage surgery, meniscal repair, cruciate ligament reconstruction, patella stabilisation/osteotomy, total and partial knee joint replacements, as well as revision knee surgeries. He is also skilled in performing MAKO robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery.
Having completed his medical training at Oxford University Medical School, Mr Lankester pursued postgraduate orthopaedic studies in Bristol. He further enhanced his expertise through fellowship training in knee and hip surgery. His dedication and proficiency in the field earned him prestigious accolades, including the British Orthopaedic Association European travelling fellowship and an AO trauma fellowship at Harborview Medical Centre in Seattle, USA.
Since 2007, Mr Lankester has been working as a consultant at Yeovil Hospital, where he performs a wide range of procedures. These include total and partial knee replacements using minimally invasive techniques, keyhole knee surgery for cartilage repair and stimulation, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, patello-femoral joint surgery, lower limb sports injury surgery, and fracture fixation surgery. His colleagues often refer patients to him for second opinions or more complex surgeries due to his expertise as a specialist knee surgeon.
Beyond his clinical practice, Mr Lankester is actively involved in teaching and research. He also serves as a reviewer for three orthopaedic journals. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was elected onto the South West Clinical Senate Council in 2017, an organisation dedicated to advising on healthcare pathway reforms in the region.
