About Dr Luke Tyson

Dr. Tyson is a highly accomplished Consultant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist with extensive experience in both clinical care and academic research. He qualified from the University of Cambridge in 2011 and completed his higher specialty training in the North West Thames region. In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr. Tyson holds a PhD from Imperial College London, where he conducted advanced research that contributed to his growing profile as a clinical academic.

He is currently on the Specialist Register for Gastroenterology, with a subspecialty in Hepatology. Dr. Tyson serves as a Consultant Hepatologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and holds joint roles as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist across Northwick Park and St Mark’s hospitals.

Dr. Tyson's clinical interests span the full spectrum of liver diseases, with particular expertise in steatotic liver conditions, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). He currently leads the NAFLD service at Northwick Park and St Mark’s. Dr Tyson also has a strong research and clinical focus on alcohol-related liver disease (ARLD/ALD). His holistic approach includes the use of FibroScan technology for non-invasive liver assessment.

Beyond hepatology, Dr. Tyson manages a broad range of general gastroenterological conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome and its mimics. He is a skilled endoscopist, routinely performing both upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (OGD) and colonoscopy to diagnose and manage a variety of digestive disorders.

Dr. Tyson has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and has been recognised with multiple competitive bursaries and academic prizes. Dr Tyson is incredibly knowledgeable on all aspects of the liver and digestive systems but talks in a way where one understands exactly what he is saying. A lot of people in his position talk a language that is totally alienated from the lay person but Dr Tyson explains in an understandable manner which is quite refreshing. He has the rare ability to make you feel that you are in very safe hands. I am grateful, and very lucky, that I have him as my doctor. I travel a long distance for my appointment with Dr Tyson but I would not have it any other way.

I recently had the privilege of being seen by Dr Tyson and I can honestly say the care I received was exceptional from start to finish. He is not only highly knowledgeable in his field, but also takes the time to listen attentively, explain everything clearly, and ensure that I fully understood my condition and treatment options. His professional yet kind and approachable manner immediately put me at ease. I felt genuinely cared for and respected as a patient, and it was clear that he was dedicated to providing the highest standard of care. He was thorough in his assessment, addressed all my concerns without rushing, and demonstrated a remarkable depth of expertise in both gastroenterology and hepatology.

Dr Tyson has been looking after my husband since before he successfully performed the TIPS procedure on him. He is always super responsive, managing to fit him into full clinics at short notice when necessary. He is extremely knowledgeable, yet friendly and patient. My husband trusts him and we feel safe in his hands. He also remembers every small detail which is very reassuring.
