Mr Kumar Abhinav

Dr Kumar Abhinav is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with extensive expertise in complex cranial surgery, including skull base, pituitary, and cerebrovascular neurosurgery. He graduated with a BSc in Radiological Sciences (2002) and an MBBS (2005) from King’s College London, before completing his FRCS (Neurosurgery) in 2016 and MD at the University of Liverpool in 2020.

Dr Abhinav trained in neurosurgery through the South-West national programme (Bristol/Plymouth) and went on to undertake two prestigious clinical fellowships at Stanford University, USA. Under the mentorship of Dr Gary K. Steinberg, he focused on open vascular and skull base neurosurgery, followed by advanced training in open and expanded endoscopic endonasal approaches with Dr Juan C. Fernandez-Miranda.

His academic work is rooted in surgical neuroanatomy and advanced white matter imaging. As a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, he investigated brain connectivity through anatomical dissection and fiber tractography, supervised by Drs Fernandez-Miranda and Robert Friedlander.

Dr Abhinav practices at Bristol Nuffield Hospital, Southmead Hospital, and Spire Hospital. His practice encompasses the management of pituitary tumours, aneurysms, AVMs, cavernous malformations, skull base meningiomas, chordomas, cranial nerve tumours, pineal and ventricular lesions, Chiari malformations, and degenerative spinal conditions.
