About Dr Graeme Thompson

Graeme is a consultant musculoskeletal radiologist with a special interest in sports injury imaging and management. His NHS practice is at Oxford University Hospitals, chiefly at the Nuffield Orthopaedic, a centre of excellence for orthopaedic treatment and research.

He performs the full range of musculoskeletal imaging and injection therapy, including PRP, dry needling, CT guided nerve root blocks and epidurals. His regular positions on the faculty of the International, British, and European Skeletal Society meetings keep him on the cutting edge of his field.

Graeme studied medicine and completed his radiology training at the University of Cape Town’s Groote Schuur hospital. He then spent fifteen years as the MSK lead in a large Cape Town private practice where he developed the service from the ground up. As a part of his sports interest, he was involved in the treatment of athletes from the South African National Rugby and Cricket Teams as well as triathletes and weekend warriors. He moved to the UK in 2018 to join Oxford University Hospitals and Oxford Musculoskeletal Radiology.

Graeme was a 1st division club rugby player for the University of Cape Town, later completing 3 full Ironman triathlons, giving him insight into the trials and tribulations of athletes both amateur and professional. His final race was Half-Ironman Barcelona in 2022, and these days he cycles socially and plays padel with his wife.
