Kayaking is my main hobby, and I first visited Emily last November while training for a trip to Chile. At the time, I was receiving physiotherapy through the NHS but didn’t feel fully understood by the practitioner I was seeing. Emily created a gentle, well-rounded plan that helped me strengthen not just my upper body, but also my lower body, which significantly improved my performance and resilience in the sport. Her initial assessments also revealed I was much weaker than I had realised. I continued working with Emily with the goal of competing in the UK’s most extreme white water kayaking race in August and only introduced a women’s category the year before. It involves not only racing down the river but also carrying your kayak back upstream as many times as possible within three hours. Initially, I saw Emily purely for shoulder recovery, but what impressed me most was how manageable, effective, and enjoyable her plans were. Over the course of the year, I had four injuries, and she collaborated closely with the physiotherapists at PureSports Med to adapt my training holistically. She even took the time to research my niche sport to tailor the plan specifically to kayaking. Over nine months, I gradually built the strength I needed and ultimately placed third in the race, completing seven laps plus a warm-up.
