At The Eating Disorder Recovery Clinic, recovery is believed to be possible for everyone. Specialising in outpatient treatment and support for a variety of eating disorders, including Anorexia, Orthorexia, Bulimia, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Binge Eating Disorder (BED), and Compulsive Eating, the clinic also offers assistance before and after bariatric surgery, as well as support with weight loss injections.
Located in Bridgwater, the clinic provides services locally and extends online support across the UK. Each client is treated as an individual, with a focus on listening to their needs and providing compassionate support from experienced professionals.
The clinic's approach to treatment is centred on one-to-one therapy conducted by skilled therapists. An integrated approach is employed to address all aspects of the recovery journey. Together, clients and therapists work on specific symptoms of the eating disorder, such as expanding food choices, adopting healthy portion sizes, and addressing bingeing or purging behaviours, with the goal of achieving recovery and reclaiming a fulfilling life.
To achieve this, evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E) and the Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA) are utilised. Through these approaches, comprehensive support tailored to each individual's needs is provided, facilitating the journey towards overcoming the eating disorder and moving towards a healthier and happier life.
This practice offers a range of facilities and services.

I was really impressed with how the team has supported my daughter. She’s working with a therapist (I’m sorry, I can’t remember their name) and is always so positive about the appointments, even when she finds them challenging. We’re noting improvements in her mood and confidence which is so wonderful to see!

Having spent years trying to convince myself I didn't have an eating disorder, my family insisted I finally seek help and I was lucky enough to discover The Eating Disorder Recovery Clinic and immediately built a great rapport with Richard and felt at ease. The journey wasn't easy, but Richard knew when to push and when to ease off, he explained everything in a simple manner, made me feel very comfortable and taught me some fantastic tools to overcome my eating disorder and other associated issues. Richard really knows his stuff and I'm pleased to say almost 12 months since my initial therapy session, I'm now going solo, but feeling positive and hopefully equipped to deal with any emotional issues that may cause a potential relapse. Thank you.

I spent 3 years in therapy, we’re I was taught really useful techniques and coping mechanisms to help me with my eating and anxiety. I can see how far I’ve come in those 3 years and am really beginning to feel like my old self, with more confidence and a better attitude to life. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my therapist and I owe him a huge thank you.

Everything went really well. I felt very understood and supported by Richard. It was really positive to work through the original triggers rather than just the anorexia. I feel like I have hope for the future again!

Very friendly, professional and supportive.

I’ve had a really positive experience at EDR. I worked with Richard before and did really well, but unfortunately had a relapse when life became hard. Richard was able to help me get back on top of things with my recovery. I didn’t experience any judgement or criticism for relapsing (which I have previously when I was with the NHS). Richard was highly compassionate and just wanted to see me get better.

I’m really very pleased with how I’ve progressed at The Eating Disorder Recovery Clinic. Having been in and out of treatment for years, it was reassuring that I could have as many sessions as I needed with my therapist. Although they kept me on point with challenging my anorexia, I was allowed to also work on anything else that was bothering me. Being able to do this really helped and it’s something I haven’t really experienced before.

Very positive experience. We had some technical issues working online but I think that was mostly my internet at university!

I’ve recently started but everything has been good so far. I’ve felt supported and listened to. Everything has been explained. It’s reassuring that the assessment is looking at everything, not just my anorexia. I’ve been saying for years that I need help with my trauma if I’m going to recover but no one listened to me until now.

Therapy really helped me get control of my eating. Before, I felt stuck in a cycle I couldn’t break, but now I understand my triggers and got better ways to cope. Still a work in progress but way better than before

Modern life isn’t easy. The challenges normally start when we’re children (stress at home, pressure at school, social media comparison) and don’t tend to get easier as we become adults. It’s perfectly normal for your brain to develop coping mechanisms to help with the struggles. Sometimes, our brain learns to use food to help us cope.
